The two primary components are:
Input tokens
The tokens sent to the AI model.
Output tokens
The tokens generated by the model.
A simplified AI API cost calculation is:
Input cost = Input tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × Input price
Output cost = Output tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × Output price
Then:
Total AI cost = Input cost + Output cost
