1. Dr. Azeez Butali: Pioneering Craniofacial Genetics

Dr. Azeez Butali is a leading figure in craniofacial genetics, with a particular focus on cleft lip and palate within African populations. His groundbreaking research has identified key genetic factors, such as CTNNA2 and SULT2A, which are now recognized as candidate genes for cleft palate. With over 2,700 citations, his work has significantly advanced the understanding of craniofacial anomalies.

Dr. Butali is also the principal investigator at the Butali Laboratory, director of the African Craniofacial Anomalies Research Network, and leads the University of Iowa College of Dentistry Biorepository. His dedication to improving health outcomes for underserved populations is truly inspiring.

Position: Postdoctoral Researcher, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Dr. Oluwatomi Akindele is making significant strides in nuclear nonproliferation and safeguards applications.
